Electric Longboard vs Electric Skateboard: What's the Difference?

Verreal RS Pro Max electric longboard with 90mm PU wheels

Is an electric longboard different from an electric skateboard? In practice, the two terms overlap. An electric skateboard is any skateboard with a motor and a remote. An electric longboard is a longer deck, usually around 90 to 100 cm, that is built for stability, cruising and longer rides. A mini electric skateboard is the short, light version made to be carried.

This guide compares the two so you can choose the right size for the way you ride.

The short answer

  • Choose an electric longboard if you want a stable, comfortable ride, a larger battery and room to stand in a relaxed stance.
  • Choose a mini electric skateboard if you need a light board you can carry on a train, upstairs or into the office.
  • Both can be fast and fun. The difference is mostly deck length, weight and battery size.

Electric longboard vs mini electric skateboard at a glance

Electric longboard Mini electric skateboard
Deck length About 93 to 97 cm Shorter, compact deck
Ride feel Stable and relaxed, good for cruising Nimble and quick to turn
Battery Larger packs for more range Smaller packs, lighter board
Carrying Heavier and longer Easy to carry
Best for Longer commutes, cruising, mixed surfaces Short trips, public transport, small spaces

1. Stability and comfort

A longer deck gives you more room to place your feet and a longer wheelbase, so the board feels calmer at speed. That is why most riders who want to cruise choose a longboard. A mini board turns faster, but it needs a little more attention at higher speeds.

2. Range and battery

A longer deck has space for a bigger battery. Verreal longboards use packs from 555 Wh up to 888 Wh, with rated ranges from about 50 to 65 km. Actual range depends on rider weight, terrain, wind and speed.

3. Weight and portability

A longboard is heavier and harder to carry. If you combine riding with trains, buses or stairs, a mini electric skateboard is the more practical choice. If you mostly ride door to door and store the board at home, the extra size is not a problem.

Electric longboard FAQ

What is an electric longboard?

An electric longboard is a long electric skateboard, usually with a deck of about 90 to 100 cm, a motor drive and a wireless remote. It is built for stable cruising and commuting.

Is an electric longboard the same as an electric skateboard?

Mostly yes. Both are motorized boards with a remote. "Longboard" simply describes the longer deck and the calmer ride that comes with it.

Is an electric longboard better for beginners?

Many beginners find a longer deck more stable and easier to learn on. A lower speed mode helps you get used to the board in the first rides.

Can I ride an electric longboard on rough roads?

Yes, with the right wheels. Larger wheels roll better over cracks and debris. Read our wheel guide to choose a set.

Are there rules for riding an electric longboard?

Rules differ from country to country and city to city. Check the local rules before you ride in public.
