Electric Skateboard Battery Guide: Wh, Cells and How to Choose a Replacement

The electric skateboard battery decides how far you can ride, how fast the board feels, and what a replacement will cost. This guide explains the numbers on a battery listing (Wh, Ah, voltage, S and P), shows the Verreal packs side by side, and tells you how to pick the right replacement for your board.

Last updated: October 2026. Prices are in US dollars as shown in the store before any promotion. Ranges are the nominal figures on each product page.

How to read a battery listing

  • Wh (watt-hours) is the energy in the pack, and the number that best predicts range. Wh is roughly nominal voltage multiplied by Ah.
  • Ah (amp-hours) is capacity. It only compares fairly between packs with the same voltage.
  • 10S or 12S is the number of cells in series. More cells in series means higher voltage: a 10S pack is labelled 36 V and a 12S pack 43.2 V.
  • 2P, 3P or 4P is the number of cells in parallel. More in parallel means more Ah and more current available.

Brands use slightly different nominal voltages per cell, so voltage multiplied by Ah can differ from the listed Wh by a few percent. For example, the 12S3P 15 Ah pack is labelled 43.2 V and 666 Wh. Always compare the Wh figure.

How battery size changes range

On the Verreal F1 Max, the 4 Ah pack (144 Wh) is rated for 14 km, the 10 Ah pack (360 Wh) for 40 km and the 15 Ah pack (555 Wh) for 55 km. On the belt-driven boards, the RS lists 53 km on its 740 Wh pack, the RS Pro about 48 km on 666 Wh, and the RS Pro Max up to 65 km on 888 Wh, or 73 km with the 1002 Wh option.

These are nominal figures from the product pages. Real range falls with a heavier rider, hills, headwind and higher speed. Our range-per-dollar comparison shows what each extra Wh costs, and the price guide lists the upgrade steps.

10S or 12S: why voltage matters

A 12S pack runs at a higher voltage than a 10S pack, which raises the top speed and the power available. The RS Neo, on a 10S4P 36 V pack, reaches 40 to 42 km/h. The RS Pro Max, on a 12S4P pack, is rated at 50 to 53 km/h. The RS Pro Max and RS Neo ESC supports 8S to 14S packs, so a higher-voltage pack can be fitted later without replacing the controller.

Voltage must match the board. A pack with a different S count than your ESC and motors were built for can damage the electronics. Buy the pack listed for your model.

How to choose a replacement or upgrade pack

  1. Start from your board. Use the model in the product title, for example "For Verreal RS" or "F1 Max & Mini".
  2. Match the voltage. A 10S board needs a 10S pack. Do not mix voltages.
  3. Choose the Wh you need. If your trips are short, a smaller pack saves money. For longer trips, the bigger pack usually costs less per Wh.
  4. Check the connector and enclosure. Some packs include the enclosure and some are pack only. The product page says which.
  5. Ask us when unsure. Send your board model and a photo of the battery label to our support team before ordering.

Warranty and replacement

Verreal gives a 180-day limited warranty that covers the battery pack and charger. If a defect is confirmed, we send a replacement part and our team guides you through the swap. Batteries lose capacity gradually with use, which is normal wear: our battery care guide explains how to charge and store the pack to slow it down.

Travelling with a battery

The F1 Max and Mini can run on modular 92.5 Wh battery modules designed for travel. Airline and transport rules differ by carrier and country, so confirm the current rules with your airline before you fly. Read more in our commuting guide.

FAQ: electric skateboard batteries

How many Wh do I need?

Take your round trip, choose a nominal range of at least twice that distance, then pick the pack that lists it. Small packs suit short rides, and larger packs add margin for hills and speed.

Can I fit a bigger battery than the original?

Only if it is listed for your board and keeps the same voltage. The RS family also supports higher-voltage packs through its 8S to 14S ESC, but ask our support team first.

How long does an electric skateboard battery last?

It depends on use, charging habits and storage. All lithium-ion packs lose capacity over time. Avoid leaving the board fully discharged or hot, and read our battery care guide.

What is the difference between a 10S and a 12S battery?

The S number is the cells in series. 12S gives a higher voltage than 10S, which means more top speed and power on boards built for it.

Can I take the battery on a plane?

Rules depend on the airline and country. The 92.5 Wh modules for the F1 Max and Mini are made for travel, but always confirm with your airline.
